Kabarbaru, China – The 8th International Conference on Strategic and Global Studies, hosted by the School of Strategic and Global Studies (SSGS) at Universitas Indonesia and the School of International Economics and Politics (SIEP) at Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics (JUFE), was successfully held on October 25–26, 2024, in Nanchang, China. Scholars and experts from around the world gathered to discuss Transformation of Global Security, Digital Economy, Regional Development, and Global Halal Industries.

“This conference is a key opportunity for us to address the complex challenges facing global security and the digital economy,” said Subroto, Dean of SSGS, during his welcoming remarks. “We need practical and inclusive solutions that support sustainable development in today’s world.” He highlighted the halal industry’s growth as an exciting area that reflects the diversity of global Muslim communities.

Throughout the event, panel discussions explored important topics such as security in a time of regional conflict, the role of the digital economy in fair growth, and the future of the global halal market. Experts also discussed ASEAN-China relations and ways to strengthen resilience through local knowledge and climate change responses.

The conference welcomed more than 300 attendees from China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Italy, Palestine, India, Morocco, and other countries.

Wu Zhaoyang, Dean of SIEP at JUFE, said, “Hosting this event has been a major milestone for us. It allowed participants from many different backgrounds to come together and build a better understanding of security and economic growth.”

The conference focused on collaboration, with attendees working together to create policy briefs that offered practical recommendations on key topics like security, the digital economy, and regional development. The discussions and presentations from the conference will also be published in a journal, adding to ongoing research in international studies and economics.

The event demonstrated the strong partnership between SSGS and SIEP, and the commitment of Indonesia and China to work together on shared challenges. By building trust and open communication, the conference aims to foster future collaborations that will benefit both countries and beyond.

The 9th International Conference on Strategic and Global Studies will be held in 2025, continuing the dialogue on these essential global topics and pushing forward new ideas for a more secure, fair, and connected world.
